What the hell happened to Mickey Rourke?

Mickey Rourke After
Mickey Rourke After

Ok, so I watched 9 1/2 weeks for the first time this weekend (I realize it was made like 20 years ago, but I was 4 when it came out, so give me a break). Anyway, I thought that Mickey Rourke looked gorgeous. Yum!

Then I found some rather disturbing "after" pictures online. What the hell did he do himself? He looks AWFUL. I dunno if it's botox or collagen lip implants or what but he looks like hell.

He also tried to cut off his own finger recently in an angry rage. Look it up online. Freak!

Supposedly it from when he decided to be a professional boxer. His face got so messed up that plastic surgery couldn't even make it look right.

Sad, because I had a massive crush on him when I was about 12 (it was after 9 1/2 weeks and he didn't some really terribly C grade movies.....exactly my kind of movies), now he's just kind of weird looking!

Yep, his face got pounded as a boxer.........

One of the great talents still living, his early career featured some staggering performances (Angel Heart, Diner, Body Heat, Barfly, Pope Of Greenwich Village etc)

He blew his ride and was reduced to straight to video for a while (he was even in van damme movie)

Recently he has returned to form with some superb performances in Buffallo 66, Thursday, Animal Factory and Sin City.

Doesnt matter what he looks like on the outside, inside he is a talented mofo.

Also, I think being involved with Carré Otis did a number on him. Lots of violence and illegal substances, if I remember correctly.

Wild Orchid! Of course, tThat was the movie I loved him in, thanks JohnDoe.

Terrible movie from memory, but god he was hot.

He is a good actor though.

Carre Otis would do a number on any red-blooded male .... (apparently that sex scene in Wild Orchid is for real ...)
And don't forget Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man!
Angel Heart is my pick o' the bunch.
And Sin City of course. He steals the show there!

I too would probably site Angel Heart as his finest moment.

For those who haven't seen Angel Heart, I did a review for it on my blog. You can chek it out here

I got a Region 2 DVD, cos the Aussie one is with scant nutting.
Nice review btw JD.
Alan Parker's directing work on Angel Heart is pretty much the best he's ever done, despite having helmed some great other work (Bugsy Malone, Birdy, Mississippi Burning).
Mickey Rourke's performance is beautifully stated.

Thanks for the kind words Gang,

Nice one Bryn, I have to pick up the UK version.

On the Alan Parker tip I would also add Pink Flyods The Wall as a worthy Directorial achievement.

Cheap plastic surgeon on the corner of Sunset is my guess. It's tough to be an aging actor out of work.

If you really knew him, you would not like the guy. He was on a 'I am the tough of the tough' type dude. His acting was so similar, that my dog could act like him. No, he was only average at his best.

This is the guy who though he was so tough, that he became a Proff. boxer and got his ass kick. He went back to movies, but nobody wanted him for a while.

You can have him.

yeah otis did a number on him alright...allegedly took advantage of the memory loss he suffered from boxing/drugs...it's amazing what someone will agree to, buy into or believe when they can't remember what really happened...

so I believe all the years he pined after her, was because she convinced him he f**cked up with her....when everyone around him, I was told and even read to confirm, warned him not to marry her and statements made by people doing drugs with her, was that she "made him crazy", was "f**ckng one of his friends, etc when he was making movies....

however, it often goes both ways and he was just as f**ckd up in his own ways...still, I contend she always used him for fame...she wanted nothing to do with him for 3 years, then a couple months after giving an interview in a UK mag, discussing how happy she was with her three year live in boyfriend and how she was helping raise his child (paraphrasing), she was on rourke's arm for the Pledge premiere (must have dropped her three year live in boyfriend on the spot to pull that one off)...

then she got the publicity and bookings for being a plus model by being seen at that premiere....to this day, don't understand why he was so clueless to what others could see about her...but again, he has/had his own very f**ckd up issues...and that tends to blind people.

I surmise one of the reasons for his face and body looking like it does now is from HGH or Human Growth Hormone

i know phill aka mick very well and it was a body rejection of facial implants for his surgery in a suicidal accident he had so it is a sad story for sure.

]carre otis is a sweetheart. i met her twice when i was working fashion week and she was a sweet, modest person. she certainly had her drug problems, but she was very sweet to mickey from what i saw. when he was stalking her at runway shows, she was never rude or cruel. she seemed concerned for his welfare in a genuine sense. also, don't discount the spousal abuse. she was no angel, but that's serious shi*t that otis had a right to hold against him. i think otis acknowledges both were at fault, herself included, and that it was a true love. she just had the strength to leave and know that once a relationship has been so destructive it's better to leave it alone. she still remained his friend and supporter (true reason she attended the pledge premiere) through it all. that's loyalty. that's love. to stay away from him in a relationship sense is strength and self-confidence, characteristics otis had to fight to develop. she had a horrible childhood, as did rourke. leave both alone. if we were so underprivileged we might be so riddled with issues, too. anyway, today otis is healthy, clean, happy and positive. she's come farther than rourke.

(Mickey) Rouke tries to pass his disfigurement off as a result of boxing of surgeries to correct the damage from boxing.

I think it's 'painfully' obvious that it is all a result of the plastic surgeries -owing to his unquenchable vanity...
