17 girls at Gloucester High School got pregnant last year in Boston. They seemed disappointed when they weren't pregnant, when girl after girl went to the school health office with a negative result. The girls made a pact to get pregnant, several of them having gotten pregnant by a 24-year-old homeless man, which horrified the stunned community.
"They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally," says one of the students, who got pregnant at age 14. "I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m."
Gloucester's school board intends on voting later this summer on whether to provide contraceptives to the troubled teens.
