Jacob Roloff Suffers Serious Injury

Jacob Roloff, the 9-year-old normal-sized child of dwarf parents from the TLC program "Little People Big World" was seriously injured this weekend.
"Jacob Roloff, the 9-year-old member of the Roloff family, who have their own reality show – Little People, Big World – on The Learning Channel, was seriously injured Saturday night in an accident involving a pumpkin launcher on the family farm.
Roloff, whose parents Matt and Amy are dwarfs (Jacob is average size), was with a family friend at a pumpkin patch at the family's home when a 2,000-pound concrete weight dislodged from a trebuchet (a catapult-like device) built earlier this year by Matt Roloff and struck both of them, according to a TLC spokesman. They were rushed a nearby hospital's trauma unit.
Roloff suffered a dime-sized bruise on his head, and doctors did a procedure to relieve swelling and avoid infection, the spokesman says. The family friend, Mike Detjen, 58, required stitches. They were both expected to be released from Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon on Monday.
‘The family is definitely excited to have Jacob home and they're looking forward to spending time together,’ a spokesman for TLC told PEOPLE on Monday.
In a message posted to the TLC message boards, Matt Roloff thanked supporters and said both patients are expected to make a full recovery. ‘Thank you all for the many well wishes and especially the prayers regarding Jacob's and Mike's terrible accident on Saturday,’ he wrote.
The second season of Little People, Big World, began airing this month. Jacob has three siblings, one of whom, Zach, is also a dwarf. Much of the show is shot on the farm in Helvetia, Oregon, which is the ultimate playground.
