Ricky Gervais Opening Speech at the Golden Globe Awards 2011
January 17th 2011 01:52
Well, true to form, Ricky Gervais kicked off the Golden Globes with a few jabs at the Hollywood elite.
First a few jokes about The Tourist and the lack of dimension in the characters. Then joking that no one saw it anyway, but it must be good because it was nominated. Well, it was nominated, Gervais implied because the Hollywood Foreign Press was open to take bribes, like tickets to a Cher show.
Then he discussed shows that were overlooked like I Love You, Phillip Morris where "two heterosexual men played homosexual men" the opposite of some famous "real life Scientologists". He said his lawyers helped him write that joke and I sure hope so because some Scientologists are also litigious!
Gervais then tied The Walking Dead to Hugh Hefner and riffed on Hefner's upcoming marriage to a Playmate. While joking about the age of Hefner's penis he said, "just don't look at it while you touch it" while making gagging faces.
His intro wrapped up with a Lost reference. Gervais' glad the ending of Lost finally explained everything about how "the fat one ate them all."
An hour in and Ricky's latest zinger was introducing Bruce Willis by all of his more obscure movies and as "Ashton Kutcher's dad."
That's it so far folks. More to come...
