Dakota Fanning's Parents Tried to Stop her from Growing Up

Dakota Fanning's parents...evil? They once tried to stop her from growing up!

"My mom and dad really don't approve of mobile phones and they really didn't want me to have one. But then on my birthday this parcel arrived from Tom and it was a phone. In the end they let me keep it."

Actually..on second thought this isn't that bad. A lot of 12-year-olds or however old she is don't have cellies. Isn't it kind of rude of Tom to go behind her parents' back though? Jesus...he's like the annoying uncle that spoils the kid but the parents feel uncomfortable around.

By the way...she said "parcel"- what is she...from 18th century England?

Dakota had better watch out - beware Tom Cruise bearing gifts. She's likely to end up his next wife...

SHe speaks through her agent, and/or pre-written interviews. you want a 12 year old actor speaking about her dolls? Because really, thats what she would do if she could.

Also, she's not letting herself grow up with the cutesy roles she continually plays. Just wait till she's 15, BAM, she's a goner.

She has been moving away from the cutesy roles... perhaps too far away. It's crazy - her parents won't let her have her own phone, but are quite happy to let her do a rape scene.

She has done her share of kid movies over the last four years ("The Cat In The Hat", "Totoro" and "Dreamer"), but it's just a sign of the times that child stars are being forced by their agents and reps to sound more mature in interviews so that the press can portray them as being more grown-up at that age than child stars of the past were. I watched an interview involving her on "Ellen" and they mostly talked about her joining the Girl Scouts and getting her badges (namely the dance badge). That was Dakota sounding like a girl her age. That was during the promotion of the film "Dreamer". Another kid's film she did (in 2006) was "Charlotte's Web". So, to say that she is moving on to more mature roles and leaving her kiddiness behind is just ludicrous. Just take a look at her filmography.
